The best diets are the ones you don’t know you’re on. The ones that are naturally delicious, full of nutrients, and simple to prep and make. Those are the best!
People often ask me for tips to curb their sweet tooth. I have a few tricks up my sleeve, but this is one of my favorite go-to’s.
Baked Apple Chips taste so naughty, but are so good for you. These don’t have any added ingredients or preservatives. They are literally apples thinly sliced on a mandolin, a dash of salt and a sprinkle of cinnamon. That’s it! Also, not only a lot cleaner (ingredients) than store bought, but also a lot cheaper. For the person who craves a crunchy sweet or sweet/salt bite, this is a perfect and healthy option.
Right in time for apple picking season.
A treat for all ages.
Kosher Salt (optional)
Preheat oven to 225 degrees.
Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Using a mandolin, carefully slice apples thinly. (Feel free to core apples first. I sometimes do, I sometimes don’t.)
Place apples in a single layer on the baking sheet. They each need their own space with no overlapping. (depending on how many apples you use at one time, you may need more than one baking sheet) If you choose to use a pinch of salt, sprinkle it evenly. Then follow with good quality cinnamon.
Place pan(s) into oven and let bake at low heat for 2 hours, turning each apple slice over at the half point, one hour in.
2 hours is perfect for most ovens. They will still be slightly bendable when you take them out, don’t be alarmed.
As they sit for the next 10 minutes they will crisp up.
I like to make these in large batches, because they just don’t last very long. They are addicting and delicious.
An apple chip (or 2) (or 10) a day, keeps the Dr away.
