Let’s Eat… Together!

 

“If you really want to make a friend, go to someone’s house and eat with him… the people who give you their food, give you their heart.” ⠀

I was raised in a home with parents who both worked. I’m not exactly sure how they pulled it off so seamlessly, but they worked hard and yet we were always together. ⠀

My mom always managed to have a home cooked delicious meal on the dinner table. ⠀

I usually helped her. ⠀

God, I loved it. I still love being in the kitchen with her. – I digress.

Anyhow, no matter what, we had dinner together every night. ⠀

As a family, we sat around the table and we shared our day, our feelings, our fears, our hopes, our dreams… we communicated. ⠀

It happened all around food. ⠀

Isn’t that how it always is? Everyone gathers in the kitchen…

I think that’s why I’m so passionate about sharing a meal with friends and family today. What a gift to be able to cook for someone you love or to eat a meal made by someone who cares for you. ⠀

Everything is “on-the-go” today. I’m in my car almost 6 hours a day. It’s just the reality of today’s world. ⠀

But if I were to be granted only one gift forever more, I would choose fellowship in my home with simple pretty things, delicious food and good people. ⠀

A gift indeed. ⠀

When setting a table, I like to include some of the fresh ingredients in the dishes I’ve made as part of the table décor. For instance, here, it was an Italian themed night, so I just simply used fresh basil in cleaned out tomato sauce cans, tomatoes on the vine along with some pretty simple spray roses. I also always have some kind of finger food like pickled veggies, crudité, or olives (pictured here) to fill the table. But mostly, less is more. Simple and sweet.
